Bad Climate Sniffles

I lived in India for almost a year and a half (not counting my 3 months back last year), and I was never sick. Not even for a day. Okay maybe for a day. I had a fever in 2006 for about 5 seconds. I have been back a week now, and I am sick. Calamity! I have a headache, stuffy nose, fever, cough…just like that stupid Nyquil commercial.

I hate the climate here. It’s not even that cold really, but I am freezing all the time (which is a pre-existing condition made twenty times worse by getting used to perfect weather). Bangalore weather . You know that Beer commercial? The one where this couple is lounging on the beach and it’s a beautiful day and a cloud passes over and one of them says, “Looks like the forecast is bad” or something. And it’s funny because Oh My Goodness, that’s sooo not bad weather..HA HA.. That’s Bangalore! Only. Not a beach. But a big city with mobs of people, traffic and pollution. But weather-wise, that couple symbolizes the Bangalorean psyche (as related to weather). It rains for 10 minutes or it gets a bit chilly, and suddenly you will see a lot of people frowning worriedly… “bad climates”. Nevermind that not a day passes by when you cannot step outside and exclaim, “wow, what a beautiful day.”

All of this is a long-winded way of saying, I miss Bangalore. A freaking lot. And skipping the sharp bite of the winter months in the US, has zapped my ability to appreciate the spring. Like a skirt offered for your birthday, when you were expecting a diamond ring.
