After seeing them at their highly staged, highly televised Unity, NH campaign moment, I basically agree with Goodwin.
My bet a month ago was that he shouldn’t and wouldn’t make the offer. Now I’m not sure. Clinton’s Friday performance adds to my growing belief the dream ticket is an on-again possibility.
I am fairly perceptible to suggestion here though. With all her normal behavior lately, Clinton has my shrug. It’s her supporters that mostly irk me now. She has spawned some crazies. Including the formerly-cool Bill Clinton. That man is the bane of her existence. I second Ta-Nehisi, in saying, it’s dumb to say Clinton only got so far because of the Mister. Can you imagine Laura Bush being a viable candidate? Or Barbara Bush? Or Nancy Reagan? Clearly simply being first lady doesn’t groom you to run a successful campaign..urr… viable campaign. I no longer buy that she is a polarizing figure. (Polls about “negatives” are stupid.) At first she was disliked because of crazy right-wing madness. And then because of crazy Clinton madness. The latter is not a factor anymore with most people.
I keep flip-flopping on whether I want this to happen or not. I mostly don’t care, actually. I want Obama to get elected, so whoever will help him do that is fine by me. I don’t know most of the other candidate names they keep throwing around and don’t have an opinion on them. It would be nice to see a woman in such a high office. And the primaries were long enough that I basically know Clinton’s solid legislative and public service record. A recognizable brand name is a nice commodity in American politics.
