On March 8th, 2012 — on International Women’s Day — Bangalore’s garment workers marched and gathered to fight for better labor conditions. Their demands were as follows:

  • Set up a committee to ensure minimum wages paid
  • Minimum wages should be fixed at Rs.300/ per day
  • A call to end sexual harassment at the workplace
  • Provide Child-care facilities at the workplace.

Bangalore has one of the largest garment industries in the nation and employs hundreds of thousands of workers — 80% of whom are women.
